Great post, Alfred. I view the 1935 abandonment as a significant doctinal shift on par with the "1914 generation" change. In both cases (1914 generation and 1935 generation) you had a doctrine-imposed end date to the Society's doomsday prophecies, and in both cases, the end was approaching fast. After dropping the 1914 generation teaching in 1995, they still had the "other generation" hanging over their heads. 12 years later they got out of that one too, albeit with much less fanfare.

Heavenly Gates Closed in 1935 Re-opened in 2007
by Alfred insince 1935, the watchtower had been categorically teaching (for over 6 decades) that the heavenly calling of the 144,000 anointed christians had ceased in 1935. this teaching was especially significant to older jws (especially those who spent much of their lives serving the watchtower as pioneers, elders, missionaries, bethelites, etc.
) because many of these would eventually turn their attention to the aging governing body members and feel a sense of relief knowing that the end was drawing ever so near.
in other words, as more governing body members (who were born before 1935) passed away, the closer they would get to their long-awaited reward of surviving armageddon and living on paradise earth where they would finally hug grass-eating lions near a waterfall while marveling at snow-peaked mountains in the distance.

Have you considered attending a local church? After leaving the WTS I attended for a few years; met some great people and still have great friends even though I havent attended in years.

Another Lie - Watchtower December 2013
by Listener ini just thought i would have another look at the december 2013 watchtower in light of the agm tommorrow.
slimboyfat had pointed out that even though there is a whole study article on the memorial, there is not one mention of the 144,000 (by number) and it may become new light that the number is no longer literal.. anway i came across this bold outright lie.
page 22 para 4.

Not sure about making the 144k figurative, could be...
What I do know is that the WTS *needed* more partakers. The only ones partaking were incredibly old; in a few years there would have been essentially no one partaking. Anyone think that having NO ANOINTED CLASS wouldn't be a *major* problem for the WTS? So, out the window goes the 1935 teaching and the number of partakers begins rising. (I personally doubt the validity of the numbers published by the WTS, but that's irrelevant.)
And so here we now are, with a well-stocked anointed class, good for years to come, and no one questioning the young, anointed GB members.

Faithful Witness:
Nice work. No reference to "the slave" or any other intermediary in those "supporting" verses.
Two verses - one about JESUS, one about JEHOVAH - and the Society offers them as support for their claim that it is VITAL to recognize..... not Jesus, not Jehovah, but THE GOVERNING BODY.The only way these verses can support the Society's claim is if the Governing Body is some sort of a mandatory mediator/intermediary between the common folk and Jesus/God.

Good comments!
SOP and Dis-Member, exactly!
According to the GB, recognizing the "faithful slave" is VITAL (absolutely necessary; essential) to ones spiritual health and relationship with God; and yet by the GB's own admission, neither they themselves nor any JW on the planet had correctly recognized the slave up until this past Watchtower study.
Just how did NOT recognizing the "faithful slave" (which is ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY and ESSENTIAL) affect individual JWs? How was their "spiritual health" affected? How was their "relationship with God" affected? What about individual JWs who died before the new light? What is their status with God?
If such a recognition of the "faithful slave" is VITAL, then there ABSOLUTELY MUST be some negative effect associated with NOT recognizing the slave. So what is it?Alternatively, if there is no negative effect to Jehovah's Witnesses for NOT recognizing the "faithful slave", then the statement by the WTS is just a BALD-FACED LIE.
Either way, individual Jehovah's Witnesses should be concerned.

JW GoneBad made this comment in another post:
Get a load of this audacious and brassy statement by the self-appointed FDS in par 2 of todays’ lesson:
‘It is vital that we recognize the faithful slave. Our spiritual health and our relationship with God depend on this channel’It's absurd for the WTS to claim that recognizing the "faithful slave" is VITAL, considering that they have only just now identified the slave.
Vital means ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY; ESSENTIAL.
How could "recognizing the faithful slave" be ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY and ESSENTIAL when up until this point in time, JWs have NOT CORRECTLY RECOGNIZED the slave?
If recognition of the "faithful slave" IS vital, then what is the consequence of having NOT recognized the slave for all those years? And if there is no consequence for having NOT recognized the slave (which I assume would be the jw position), then how could recognition of the slave be said to be vital?
